What motivated you to become a scientist?
When I was in high school, I took an elective called “Science Seminar” that connected me to the medical center in the town that I grew up. I immediately fell in love with research. Later, I went to science fairs and presented the work I had done throughout the year. First at the local level, then at regionals and state. Winning at each level made a positive impression of my interest in science. Science fulfilled my need to be both organized and creative. I was fortunate to find it at such a young age.
What does your typical day at Ozette look like?
Every day here is a bit different, but if I had to generalize, I’d say as a laboratory scientist, I help develop assays and establish new procedures and protocols for Ozette. I hope to spend a lot of my time crunching numbers and looking at the data.
When did you join?
I started in May of 2022.
What prompted you to come to Ozette?
I am a really driven person and the fast-paced and environment here appeals to me. You can’t get more fast paced than a start-up, right? I wear thirty hats in one day in addition to being a mom and a scientist. It’s very satisfying. Also, as the DEI chapter chair for Women In Biology-Seattle, I’m passionate about purpose driven organizations. The values Ozette is building our company on are inspiring and in step with how I see the modern world.
What does the future look like at Ozette to you?
I truly believe this company is going to be the gold standard for the kind of analysis we are doing. The implications of this for the world at large are enormous.
